On this page we have collated a list of useful resources and organisations offering advice and support concerning work and career opportunities. We have grouped them by the type of health condition they focus on.

General disability/health condition(s) career support:

Business Disability Forum provides a number of services to members sharing expertise, advice, training and networking opportunities.

Snowden Trust scholarship programme funding Masters courses for people living with disabilities. 

Leonard Cheshire alongside their Change100 Internship programme they also offer employment support in some areas of the UK as well as an award for disabled entrepreneurs.

Shaw Trust has a work and health programme designed to improve employment outcomes for people with health conditions or disabilities. 

Scope has a support to work scheme offering support for disabled people who are applying for jobs. 

Mental illness support:

Better Pathways offer individual placements and support for people with severe mental ill-health to get into employment.

Bipolar UK Employment Service offer practical advice on volunteering opportunities and support for issues around recruitment, disclosure and interview technique.

Waythrough supports people with mental ill health to find employment. 

Blind and d/Deaf:

Blind in Business help blind and partially sighted people navigate recruitment processes.

RNIB offer a range of advice and resources and have employment specialists.

Royal Association for Deaf People have specialist employment advisors who can support a number of aspects of career guidance.

SpLD and neurodiverse specific opportunities:

AS Mentoring Ltd offers specialist help to find work, with mentoring and workplace support for those on the autism spectrum or other neurodiverse conditions.

Exceptional individuals offer employment support, in-work support and development courses.

Genius Within helps people with neurodiverse conditions including learning difficulties, mental health issues, brain injury & other illnesses which have neurodiverse symptoms (e.g. CFS/ME, cancer, parkinson’s). They support jobseekers and those in work, and they train employers to be inclusive.

Matthews Hub support autistic people to gain employment, training and education experience.

Physical Illness support: 

Diabetes UK share advice on the law, job applications & how to manage your diabetes at work. 

Epilepsy Society outline health & safety laws including adjustments and what jobs you can do, as well as hosting a confidential helpline. 

Macmillan have advice on your rights & entitlements at work if you have cancer, and also offer support via phone, email, online or in person.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust covers CF and work, including the law, advice on finding work, finance & government benefits, dealing with discrimination. 

Working with cancer helps people who have or have had cancer find/return to work & support them to stay in work, as well as advising employers on how to support employees with cancer.
